Ronald Adamtey

Faculty Biography

Ronald Adamtey is an Associate Professor in the Department of Planning, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana. He holds a PhD in Governance and Public Policy from the University of Sussex, United Kingdom, a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Community Development, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, and BSc. Planning from the University of Science and Technology in Kumasi. His current research interests are decentralization and local governance, political economy of public policy, climate change and water policy, environment and the politics of neo-patrimonial ties in governance.Ronald has been involved in a number of local and international collaborative research activities to inform and shape public policy in Ghana and Sub-Saharan Africa. Key among these are the work on the Environmental Sustainability Strategy for 4R-NSP in Northern Ghana for the Cooperative Development Foundation of Canada, an Overseas Development Institute (ODI) funded project “WISE-UP to Climate Change” focusing on the analysis of the political-economy of water infrastructure and investment in the Volta Basin in Ghana, and the development of Environmental Strategy for the FOSTERING Project to be incorporated into a five-year ‘Food Security through Cooperatives in Northern Ghana.’ The project is a partnership among the Canadian Co-operative Association (CCA), the Social Enterprise Development Foundation (SEND)-Ghana and the Ghana Credit Unions Associations (CUA) Ltd. Ronald is currently involved in a five year DANIDA funded “CREAM – Building Climate-Resilience into Basin Water Management” project with the goal to increase river basin resilience against Climate Change challenges to water infrastructure, livelihood, water-food-energy security, and environmental conservation. Ronald is leading the Work Package 5 component of the project focusing on “Integrated Governance” with partners from the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, Water Research Institute (CSIR-WRI) and Arhus University in Denmark working on policy design and policy implementation considering international, national and local interests, stakeholders and potential conflicts over the use of water resources in the Pra and Densu basins.The results and findings from Ronald’s research have been presented in local and international conferences and peer reviewed journals.
