Alexander Kofi Anning

Faculty Biography
Prof. Alexander Anning is an ecologist with many years of university teaching and research experience. He is a Professor of Ecology at the Department of Theoretical and Applied Biology, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Ghana, where he has been working since 2005. Prof. Anning obtained his Bachelor of Science and Master of Philosophy degrees, both in biological sciences, from the KNUST in Ghana. He also studied for his doctoral degree at the Ohio University in Athens, United States. His research interests cut across key topics in plant ecology including tropical forest dynamics and disturbance ecology, fire ecology, plant invasions, biodiversity conservation, and global change. Prof. Anning has authored many scientific articles, which are published in reputable international and local refereed journals.Prof. Anning has been a Visiting Professor to the ISA Lille University in Lille, France since 2018 as part of the Erasmus + collaborative programme between KNUST and JUNIA Lille.He is a member of several professional associations including the Ghana Science Association, the University Teachers Association of Ghana, and the American Ecological Society. He has served on a number of boards and committees, and also provided many services to organizations both locally and internationally. Prof. Anning served as the Hall Master of the University Hall (Katanga) from 2018 to 2022.
