Kwasi Kwafo Adarkwa

Faculty Biography

Professor Kwasi Kwafo Adarkwa is an accomplished scholar and renowned professional planner. He is a fellow of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences, the Ghana Institute of Planners and the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport. He is currently a Full Professor at the Department of Planning, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. He has published over 100 articles in high impact international scientific peer review journals and written several technical reports, which have informed public policies in Ghana and other countries in the Global South. His research interests lie in  urbanisation and growth of human settlements, transportation planning and economics, and  land use planning. Between 2002 and 2006, he served as the Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi; and became the Vice Chancellor of the same university between 2006 and 2010. During his time as the Vice Chancellor, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology was ranked the 20th best university in Africa and the topmost university in Ghana.  Professor Kwasi Kwafo Adarkwa has supervised nine (9) doctoral students who are currently working in various sectors of the economy.  His enormous contribution to professional planning practice, research and mentorship of university students was recognized in 2008, when he was selected by then President of Ghana, John Agyekum Kufuor, for a national award in the field of academics. In 2010, Professor Adarkwa was awarded the Order of the Volta (Officer Division) for his distinguished service to Higher Education by the President of the Republic of Ghana at the 48th Republic Day Celebrations Honours Day. Professor Kwasi Kwafo Adarkwa is currently the Chairman of the Board of Land Use and Spatial Planning Authority, Chairman of the Governing Council of Institute of Local Government Studies, Chairman of Governing Council of the Agogo Presbyterian Women’s College of Education, Chairman of the Council of the University College of Agriculture and Environmental Studies and the Chairman of the Council of Kessben University College. He was also a member of the Commission of Inquiry into the Creation of the new regions in Ghana. He previously served as a Member of the Mfantsipim School Board, Wesley College of Education Council and the Regent University College of Science and Technology Council. He is a very proud member of MOBA’69, otherwise known as the Blighters, and Pickard – Parker House.
