Phyllis Tawiah
The researcher's work spans multiple areas of health and aging research, encompassing themes such as oxidative stress, antibiotic use, COVID-19 epidemiology, mental health, cognitive impairment, geriatric care, lipid profiles, neonatal infections, sodium intake, HIV complications, food composition, and interventions in health sciences. Their studies highlight the importance of addressing aging-related conditions through diverse approaches, including cocoa beverages for antioxidant activity, antibiotic stewardship to enhance public health, COVID-19 case reports, mental health interventions, and comprehensive investigations into aging populations.
Faculty Biography
Dr. Phyllis Tawiah is a Geriatrician at the Department of Medicine, KNUST. She received her fellowship training in Geriatric Medicine at the Emory University School of medicine, USA. At the Icahn School of Medicine based in Mount Sinai, NY, she received a mini-fellowship training in Geriatric Medical Education. Dr. Tawiah received her Internal Medicine Residency from the Flushing Hospital Medical Center, New York. Prior to travelling to the United States of America for further studies, she obtained her MBChB and BSc Medical Sciences degrees from the University of GhanaDr. Tawiah holds an active license with the State of Connecticut Department of Public Health and the Ghana Medical and Dental Council. Dr. Tawiah is also a fellow of the American College of Physicians and a member of the American Geriatric Society. Dr. Tawiah sits on multiple committees including the KNUST Wellness Centre committee, the Clinical and Therapeutics Committee and the Local Organising Committee of the 2022 GUSA Games where she serves as the Chairperson of the 2022 GUSA Food Committee.
