ACADEMIC BIONAME: Bernard C. NkumQUALIFICATION: B. Sc., MB ChB, MD, FGCP, FRCP, FWACP, Fellowship Certificate in Cardiovascular DiseaseACADEMIC DEPT: Medicine Professor Bernard C. Nkum did a fellowship with the West African College of Physicians in 2001. He earned B Sc and MB ChB from the Kumasi School of Medicine and Dentistry (KSMD), KNUST. He was elected to the fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP), London in 2012. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine, KSMD. He is also an Honorary Consultant Cardiologist at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Kumasi.In 1999-2000 he was a West African Fellow at the Medical Research Council (MRC) Labs UK, in Fajara, The Gambia. In 2004-2006 he did Lown Fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease in the Developing World, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts. He was awarded a certificate for completing the Program in Clinical Effectiveness, Harvard School of Public Health, Boston. In 2004-2006 he was an MD, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Board of Registration in Medicine, Massachusetts, USA.He is a non-invasive cardiologist. His areas of interest/expertise include the diagnosis and management of patients with arrhythmias, coronary artery disease, adult congenital heart disease, hypertension, valvular heart disease and thromboembolism. His expertise include conducting electrocardiogram, exercise tolerance test, echocardiogram, event monitoring, Holter monitoring and 24h ambulatory blood pressure monitoring. He is also an expert in medical postgraduate training and examinations.Prof Nkum joined the department of Medicine, KSMD, which he now heads in 2000. He was the Secretary-General of the West African College of Physicians in 2010-2014. He is the head of the Emergency and Acute Medicine Subspecialty of the Internal Medicine Faculty of WACP. He is currently also the chief examiner of the Internal Medicine Faculty of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons.
