Faculty Biography

Dr. (Mrs) Gifty Adom Asamoah is a planning professional and a senior lecturer at the Department of Planning, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. In the field of academia, Dr. (Mrs) Gifty Adom- Asamoah has mentored and lectured students for more than a decade. She has taught several and continue to teach courses such as gender and development, gender and equity in transport, transportation planning, development infrastructure planning, demography and social infrastructure planning, development planning process and research methods to list a few. She has also worked as a consultant in the field of development and spatial planning for more than two(2) decades.Dr. (Mrs.) Gifty Adom Asamoah has enormous experience in the mentorship of graduate students. She has supervised over 50 master’s students. She currently has four (4) Ph.D. students which includes one student from Gambia. In the area of research, Gifty has published a number of articles in high impact factor journals. Her research interest includes areas such as transportation planning, infrastructure planning and gender studies with emphasis on women and children’s mobility and challenges hindering their socio –economic development in Ghana. Dr. (Mrs) Gifty Adom Asamoah’s research work currently focuses on poverty reduction through access to land among female headed households, climate change mitigation and transport emission and climate change and the education of female farmers.Dr. (Mrs) Gifty Adom Asamoah has served on several boards and committees at the university, national and international levels. She has served as a member of the University GUSSS Management Board, University Ranking Committee and University Sport Board among others at the university level. At the national level the boards and committees include being a member on the Centre for Urban Transport Board, District Tourism Development Committee and resource person for the National Population Council to train District Planning and Budget Officers in the country and Council Member, Tamale Technical University Governing Council. On the international front, she has represented KNUST on a workshop on Female Academics in West Africa and also served as a facilitator on a workshop on Women Advancement Forum International Exchanges Research and Academia (WAFIRA, 2017) organized by German Academic and Exchanges Services (DAAD).
