Research Overview & Focus

The researcher's work spans multiple domains within life sciences, focusing on agronomic practices, soil health, nitrogen dynamics, carbon stock management, and plant-based innovations. Their research delves into topics such as intercropping systems for soil improvement, nitrogen-based systems like biochar for agriculture, tree-ring studies for climate insights, and the role of plants and microorganisms in soil processes. The researcher also investigates agricultural practices that enhance food resilience and sustainability, examining soil dynamics and their applications in crop yields. Their work highlights the interconnectedness of environmental factors, such as heavy metals, with agricultural productivity, emphasizing the need for sustainable practices in African contexts.

Faculty Biography

Dr. Tetteh is currently a Lecturer at the Department of Agroforestry.  Dr. Erasmus Tetteh Narteh was an Agronomist in-charge of Tree Crops and Head of the CSIR-Crops Research Institute’s Rubber station at Aiyinasi in the Western Region of Ghana. I hold a PhD in Agroforestry from the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). My postgraduate and graduate degrees were in Agroforestry and Natural Resources Management respectively from KNUST, Kumasi.Dr. Tetteh has research interest areas which include Rubber Agroforestry, Tree Crops Agronomy, Land reclamation, Soil plant relations, Food Security, Sustainable Agriculture and Climate Smart Agriculture. The topic for the PhD dissertation was: Intercropping Immature Rubber Tree (Hevea brasiliensis mull. arg.) with Plantain (Musa spp. AAB) in Agroforestry System: Contribution to Household Food Security in the Western Region of Ghana. I played Administrative and Scientific roles as Head of CSIR-Crops Research Institute’s Rubber Station at Aiyinasi in the Western Region of Ghana and has developed the station to an enviable position. I researched in the Agronomic and Economic Potentials of different rubber-plantain intercropping systems in the Western and Central regions of Ghana.I coordinated the Ghana Rubber Estates Ltd. (GREL)/CSIR-CRI Food Security Project where I liaised between CSIR-CRI, relevant organizations and village communities/Farmers in the Western and Central regions of Ghana on Food Security to train Seven thousand (7000) farmers in the Western and Central regions in Best Agronomic Practices, Animal Husbandry and Alternative Livelihoods.Erasmus Tetteh also coordinated Coastal sustainable project with Hen Mpoano (Our Coast) in the Western Region of Ghana where six coastal communities whose livelihoods were affected by the oil and gas activities have been assisted through various interventions to improve their livelihoods. I was also the Coordinator of the project on the rubber seedlings and plantain sucker production to Ghana Rubber Estates Ltd (GREL) where I produced over 100,000 each of rubber stumps and plantain suckers to GREL for distribution to their outgrowers. I assisted in the primary multiplication of three released cocoyam varieties at the CSIR-CRI (Aiyinasi Station) which has been distributed to farmers and MoFA.I also researched on the growth, development and yield of cassava as affected by nutrient status of mother plant in a team under the West Africa Agriculture Productivity Programme (WAAPP).Dr. Tetteh is currently evaluating the yield potential of five rubber clones in the evergreen forest zone of Ghana among other research areas. I was part of the team on the project that investigated the phenomenon underpinning Soils of Forest Islands in Africa together with Researchers from the department of Crop and Soil Sciences, KNUST, Institut de l’ Environnement et de Reserches Agricoles, Burkina Faso (INERA) – Burkina Faso, Imperial College London and FUNAAB, Nigeria.I was also part of the team of the CSIR-Crops Research Institute(CSIR-CRI) and CSIR-Soil Research Institute that worked in collaboration with Ghana Forest Investment Programme (Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources) to integrate trees in agricultural farming systems to increase yield, resilience and carbon stocks.I was a team member of the OCP formulated fertilizer trial on cassava and Coordinator of government’s flagship project “Planting for Export and Rural Development” (PERD) for CSIR-CRI. I assisted CSIR-CRI to produce 195,000 rubber stumps and 145,000 mango seedlings to PERD and the Tree Crops Development Authority (TCDA). I am currently working on the effect of Organic Farming Aid product on the growth of rubber seedlings in the Western Region of Ghana. I am a member of the Self Finance Rubber Association with Farm number SOF805 and a proud owner of 150 acres of mature rubber plantation.I was also the CRI representative for the workshop on the regulation of tree crops in Ghana.
