Research Overview & Focus

The researcher's research is centered around the study of bioactive compounds, focusing on alkaloids, phytochemicals, and antimalarials. Their work encompasses a wide range of areas, including their pharmacological activity, synthesis, interaction studies with natural products, and applications in disease management. Key contributions include the investigation of root extracts from Ononis spinosa for ant-inflammatory effects, triazoles for antimalarial agents, and the pharmacological properties of compounds like 5-HTP. The researcher also employs advanced techniques such as UV-Vis spectroscopy and chemometric strategies to classify herbal products and predict their behavior in various environments. Their work highlights a comprehensive approach to understanding bioactive compounds' roles across health sciences and pharmacology.

Faculty Biography

Dr. John Addotey is a pharmacist by training and is a member of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana since 2007. He obtained a Master of Philosophy in Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana in 2010 after which he was employed as an assistant lecturer at the same university. He was promoted to the rank of lecturer in 2014. In 2015, he won a scholarship by the DAAD/Ghana Government to study for a Ph.D. at the University of Muenster, Germany. He graduated cum Laude in 2019 and has since returned to Ghana where he is a senior lecturer at the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. John does research in Phytochemistry, Pharmaceutical, and Medicinal Chemistry. His focus is on the bioassay-guided isolation, characterization, and quantification of bioactive compounds. Dr. Addotey is a member of a number of organizations including the American Chemical Society and the Society for Medicinal Plants and Natural Products Research.
