The researcher's work integrates statistical and computational methodologies across a diverse range of health and social sciences domains. This comprehensive approach focuses on immunology for Schistosoma haematobium infections, epidemiology of Salmonella and Campylobacter diseases, SARS-CoV-2 testing, TB treatment strategies, ICT applications in community health, Parasite-Host interactions, mobile health tools, statistical modeling techniques, global patterns under climate change, public health reforms, social media interventions, financial risk models, HIV/AIDS impact research, energy load forecasting, biochemical analysis methods, vaccine hesitancy studies, and the synthesis of alkaloid-based drug therapies. This integrated approach aims to address complex issues from immunology to policy synthesis using a holistic methodological framework.

Faculty Biography

Professor Sampson Twumasi-Ankrah is an Associate Professor in the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science at KNUST. I am a contemporary statistician with a focus on biostatistics and econometrics. Additionally, I have extensive experience in vaccine research and surveillance studies.I have over six years of experience in vaccine and surveillance research. As a statistician, I have contributed to evaluating vaccines, such as the Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine Trial, the Pediatrics iNTS Vaccine Trial, and the COVID-19 Herbal clinical trial. These experiences have deepened my understanding of statistical methodologies specific to vaccine trials and the critical role statistics play in improving public health outcomes.I have extensive experience in disease and environmental surveillance research, focusing on typhoid, and using mobile health information systems to improve child health outcomes. With my statistical background and years of experience, I have led a team to establish a Demographic Surveillance Site (DSS). I have also developed strong strategies for participant recruitment, ensuring diverse and representative cohorts. My expertise in data management techniques has allowed me to establish robust data collection processes, ensuring data integrity and reliability. I am well-versed in electronic data capture platforms like REDCap, Commcare, and others, and have effectively applied these tools to streamline data collection and management for research initiatives.Teaching has always been integral to my journey, as I strongly believe in sharing knowledge and inspiring the next generation of statisticians. With my expertise in statistics, econometrics, and biostatistics, I have successfully taught these courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. I am known for creating an engaging and supportive learning environment and encouraging students to excel. Moreover, I have supervised numerous students at various academic levels, providing them with guidance and mentorship to help shape their research careers.My commitment to bridging the gap between theory and application sets me apart as a statistician. I am constantly exploring innovative statistical modeling techniques to address complex research questions. My research interests include biostatistics, time series analysis, econometrics, extreme statistics, and regression methods. By staying current with the latest developments in statistical theory and methodology, I aspire to tackle challenges beyond biostatistics and facilitate evidence-based decision-making in various sectors.As I progress in my career, my ultimate goal remains focused on making a tangible impact on research and practical applications. By combining my diverse expertise in biostatistics, econometrics, and vaccine research with my passion for teaching, I aim to contribute to advancements in statistical methodologies and their application to improve public health outcomes and inform evidence-based decision-making.In summary, my experience in diverse applications of statistics, particularly in the fields of biostatistics and econometrics, along with my extensive knowledge in vaccine research and surveillance studies, positions me as a well-rounded statistician ready to make a meaningful contribution to the field. With my dedication to teaching and mentorship, I want to inspire future statisticians to embrace the power of statistics in addressing critical challenges and shaping a healthier and more informed society.
