Adwoa Bemah Boamah Mensah
The researcher has conducted extensive work across various domains of health sciences, focusing on improving healthcare access and quality in resource-limited settings such as low-income countries. Key themes include global challenges in maternal and child health, advancements in drug availability and pricing, mental health interventions, family support for illness management, innovative patient outcomes research, and the impact of caregiving practices on advanced cancer care. These studies highlight systemic barriers to healthcare access, emphasizing the need for equitable resource distribution and culturally sensitive interventions. The researcher's approach combines qualitative methodologies with systematic reviews and policy analysis, aiming to address both existing challenges and emerging technologies that enhance healthcare delivery and patient outcomes.
Faculty Biography
I am a Registered Nurse, specializing in Oncology and Adult Health Nursing, and teaching Nursing and Midwifery students at the Department of Nursing for the past 4 years, 10months. I am an early career researcher, who has the research training, expertise, and experience to successfully carry out a scientific project. My background is in General Nursing with 10 years of clinical experience in Oncology, and five years of research experience, including qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods research. My primary area of interest is in non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in LMICs, specifically, breast and gynecological cancers, and palliative care, although with considerable scientific work in maternal and child health. Over the last four years, I have gained experience in postgraduate/undergraduate teaching and research in Ghana and successfully mentored students in Ghana and abroad. Through these, I have gained extensive research experience in research among populations in the field of non-communicable diseases, particularly, breast, cervical and other cancers.My vision is to improve early detection of breast and cervical cancers and reduce their mortality especially in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) as enshrined in the objectives of SDG Target 3.4. I am passionate about expanding my research capacity in SSA by developing my research capacity as well as training junior scientists. I have successfully collaborated with several researchers and these have resulted in many peer-reviewed publications. My experiences with all the projects I have worked on in the past are invaluable in future project delivery. In the short to medium term conclusion, I hope to advance my research and career aspirations as an implementer and leader. The long-term goal will be to successfully generate funds to raise a cadre of skilled research scientists to conduct clinical research in Ghana and beyond. This will provide and consolidate the needed capacity for breast and cervical cancer control in Ghana and beyond.
