Isaac Nkrumah
The researcher has conducted extensive research across a diverse range of themes within the Physical Sciences domain, focusing primarily on innovative applications in materials science, biotechnology, and environmental health. Their work encompasses the use of adsorption technologies for pollutants removal, synthesis of novel materials such as quantum dots and CdS thin films, exploration of biomaterials like nanocrystalline thin films, and advancements in hydrogen storage systems. Additionally, they have investigated pedagogical approaches to teaching, emphasizing problem-based learning and the application of advanced materials in health interventions. Their research highlights a strong interdisciplinary approach, combining fundamental scientific discoveries with practical applications in environmental and health contexts.
Faculty Biography
Prof. Isaac Nkrumah is an associate professor in the Department of Physics, KNUST. He holds PhD (Thin film deposition specialization), MSc, BSc from the same University and MSc in Engineering in Nanoscale Physics and Engineering from Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg, Sweden.Isaac is a fellow of the Brew-Hammond Energy Centre and a member of Solar and Renewable Energy group. He is also a member of Institute of Physics and Ghana and Ghana Science Association.He has over 15 years of experience in research in thin film deposition for photovoltaic applications, renewable energy, recently in materials for energy storage and synthesis and characterization of zeolite. He teaches Quantum Mechanics, Electronics Materials and Devices, Spectroscopy and other basic physics courses.As member of Renewable Energy Research group under Advanced Materials Technology group in the Department of Physics, KNUST, he was a lead member of the research group involved in the ‘Start-Up Factory’, a collaboration between lecturers and students from Department of Physics, KNUST and those from University of Paderborn, Germany in the area of renewable energy. This project was funded by German Academic Service (DAAD) between 2015-2018.Isaac also contributes to academic community by reviewing for journals such as Applied Physics A, Journal of Advances in Physics and Open Journal of Applied Science. He is a Team Leader (TL) at West Africa Examination Council and WASSCE Physics Examiner.At the university level, he currently holds the position of Faculty Examinations Officer in the Faculty of Physical and Computer Sciences, a member of College of Science Auditing Team and previous Examinations Officer, Department of Physics.
