Kwabena Obeng Asiama
This researcher has conducted extensive work in land administration, governance, and environmental sustainability across multiple domains, from African land reforms to urban development challenges. Their research focuses on participatory land management, land consolidation strategies, and the role of technology in securing land rights and ecosystems. Through case studies of Ghana’s Bui Dam project and other large-scale infrastructure projects, they have explored the complexities of land use, cadastres, and their social impact. In domains like water resources management, the researcher has integrated innovative technologies such as remote sensing and blockchain into land administration processes. Their work also delves into the intersection of Hermeneutics with narrative identity in governance, offering a unique approach to understanding and preserving land rights.
Faculty Biography
Dr. Kwabena Obeng Asiama is currently a lecturer at the Department of Land Economy, KNUST. Prior to this, he was assistant professor and leader of the Land and Real Estate Management Working Group at the Geodetic Institute of the Leibniz University of Hannover, Germany. He received his PhD. (2019) and MSc. (2015) from the Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC) of the University of Twente with a focus on Land Administration. He completed BSc. in Land Economy (2012) at KNUST, Kumasi, Ghana. In 2018, Kwabena received the FIG-Survey Review Prize at the XXVI FIG Congress. He was also twice named one of the 40 under 40 motivated and accomplished young surveying professionals by the xyHt magazine.Kwabena is currently Chair of the International Federation of Surveyor (FIG) Commission 8 on Spatial Planning and Development (2023-2026). He was the Chair of the FIG’s Young Surveyors Network (FIG-YSN) in 2021-2022 . He is also a member of the editorial and review boards of Taylor and Francis Survey Review, and MDPI Land respectively, and serves as a regular Guest Editor with MDPI Land.Kwabena is a professional member of the Ghana Institution of Surveyors (GhIS) and a member of the German Society for Geodesy, Geoinformation, and Land Management (DVW).
