Faculty Biography
Seth is a Lecturer in the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi. He is a certified Medical Laboratory Scientist, as recognised by the Allied Health Professions Council in Ghana, with over a decade of experience in clinical laboratory practice before joining KNUST.Seth holds a BSc in Medical Laboratory Technology, an MPhil in Immunology, and an MEd in Educational Planning and Administration from KNUST, as well as a PGDip in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education from the University of Education, Winneba. Seth was a PhD Fellow at the West African Centre for Cell Biology of Infectious Pathogens (WACCBIP) in Ghana, under the esteemed Wellcome Trust - Developing Excellence in Leadership, Training, and Science in Africa (DELTAS) programme. He afterwards graduated with a PhD in Molecular Cell Biology of Infectious Diseases from the University of Ghana, Legon.His research focuses on elucidating how toxins interact with the hepatitis B virus to promote liver cancer, discovering anticancer agents from medicinal plants, and identifying drugs that block the transmission of the malaria parasite. To advance his expertise in malaria research, he received the prestigious Africa Research Excellence Fund (AREF) Research Development Fellowship, which enabled him to receive training at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He was also a Visiting Researcher at the Africa Microscopy Initiative Imaging Centre in South Africa, where he gained advanced bioimaging skills.His professional services include reviewing for reputable journals such as Cancer Reports, Health Science Reports, and the Journal of Ethnopharmacology, as well as serving as an Academic Editor for PLOS One. Through his work, Seth aims to advance the discovery of innovative therapies and empower the next generation of African scientists.
