Research Overview & Focus

The researcher's work is centered around advancing understanding in geotechnical engineering through an interdisciplinary approach that integrates pavement performance evaluation with geomechanical principles. Utilizing sophisticated methodologies such as dynamic cone penetration index testing, electrical resistivity studies, and artificial neural network models, the researcher explores how materials like natural fibers and geotextiles influence soil behavior and pavement characteristics. This research spans themes including underground structures, pavement engineering, geophysical methods, financial risk modeling, logistics, and material processing. The focus is on developing innovative solutions for road construction challenges using advanced analytical techniques to enhance pavement durability and safety across various technical domains.

Faculty Biography

Ing. Prof. Ampadu is an educator, researcher and a practising engineer with over 37 years experience of teaching various engineering courses to both undergraduate and postgraduate engineering students at KNUST. Prof. Ampadu has held various leadership roles in the University, including Head of the Civil Engineering Department and the Provost of the College of Engineering, providing leadership for the College and coordinating the activities in the different academic departments. It was under his leadership that the Pre-Engineering Programme was designed and executed for foreign students who needed a more solid foundation to succeed in their engineering programme. He was the Consultant that designed the Civil Engineering Programme at Central University. Prof Ampadu has extensive experience in project management and in various institutional and research leadership positions. Prof. Ampadu has led teams of experts to successfully complete various short-term assignments including consultancies in a wide range of disciplines from geotechnical engineering to energy tariffs
