Research Overview & Focus

The researcher has made significant strides in advancing pharmaceutical applications across diverse domains, focusing on extended release formulations, gels for drug delivery, plant-based therapies, antimicrobial resistance, and broader societal impacts such as energy consumption and access control systems. Key works include the development of natural gums for extended release matrices and hydrophilic films, the characterization of Pectin in oral liquid formulations, and the assessment of antibiotic resistance using extemporaneous formulations. These studies highlight advancements in sustainable drug delivery methods and plant-based solutions, contributing to medical knowledge through practical applications.

Faculty Biography

Prof. Mariam El Boakye-Gyasi is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutics, Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi Ghana. She teaches Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technology to both undergraduate and graduate students. She holds a PhD and MPhil in Pharmaceutics and Bachelor of Pharmacy Degree from KNUST. She is a Pharmacist and a member of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana and the Chairperson of the Lady Pharmacists Association of Ghana.  Prof. Boakye-Gyasi is the postgraduate seminars and Research Cordinator for the Department of Pharmaceutics. She is the Academic Capacity Lead for FIP-UNESCO UNITWIN Center for Excellence in Africa and a member of FIP-WISE. Prof. Boakye-Gyasi is a Fellow of the University of Michigan African Presidential Scholars' Program. She is the Associate Editor of Tek Connect, the Oficial Alumni Newsletter for KNUST Alumni and Friends. Her Research interests in Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technology include, drug formulation and quality control, use of local excipients in drug formulation and natural polymers and nanotechnology. Prof. Mariam El Boakye-Gyasi is currenlty the Head of Monitoring and Evaluation at the Quality Assuarance and Planning Office (QAPO-KNUST).
