Research Overview & Focus

The researcher's work spans extensive natural plant and animal studies, investigating materials properties across diverse domains such as energy, economics, fire prevention, and sustainability. Their research encompasses investigations in sawdust, bamboo tissues, fungi, biofuels, agricultural practices, botany in trees, and forest management, addressing environmental impact to conservation and sustainability challenges.

Faculty Biography

Dr. Boadu is a Forester and Forest Biomaterial Scientist working with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. He is a member of the International Society for Tropical Foresters (ISTF). His objective is to contribute to the sustainable utilization of forest biomaterials in a way best suited for conservation, promoting environmental justice, and job creation. His expertise in Forestry, Environmental justice, Wood Science and Technology, biodiversity, Business Administration (Human Resources Management), community engagement, Teaching and development, and project implementation will achieve this. He is passionate about nature and all things biomaterial. Innovation, passion, excellence, integrity, and transparency are the qualities he values the most. He has excellent social and experimental research skills and is good at handling budgets, research communication, and statistical and graphical data analysis. He was a member of the team of investigators that worked on developing an early-warning Spatiotemporal flood risk model for the White Volta catchment sponsored by the KNUST Research Fund in 2022. He was a key team member from the Department of Wood Science and Technology, KNUST, that developed the BSc Packaging Technology Programme. He was a Supervisor for the Global Outlook on Forest Education Project (GOFE), sponsored by the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO), and an Assistant Field Officer at the Mensuration and Inventory Unit at RMSC of the Forestry Commission of Ghana, Kumasi. He gathered data for the FAO Forest Resources Assessment (Ghana Report) in 2010 and the Forestry Commission's Seedling Survival Assessment in Several Forest Reserves in Ghana between 2007 and 2008. He was also part of the team contracted by the International Cocoa Initiative (Switzerland) to undertake a qualitative study in cocoa communities with Child labour monitoring and remediation systems (CLMRS) in Ghana to evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of appointing local community members as CLMRS monitoring agents. Dr. Boadu has been trained on bamboo conservation and carbon assessment by the International Network for Bamboo and Rattan. Having worked with the Forestry Commission of Ghana, he has established local and international links and contacts to ensure the smooth execution of forest-wood-biodiversity-related projects.He has conducted extensive research on various aspects of wood as the most significant forest biomaterial on earth and has several publications to his credit.He is a reviewer for internationally renowned journals, including ACS OMEGA, Maderas-Cienc Tecnol journal, Social Sciences and Humanities Open, Biomass Conversion and Biorefinery, Asian Journal of Agriculture, BioResources, Case Studies in Construction Materials, International Journal of Forestry and Wood Science, and Scientific African.
