David Asamoah

Faculty Biography

Prof. David Asamoah has been with Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) for the past 17 years and he is currently a Professor and the Pro-Vice Chancellor of KNUST. Before assuming the position of the Pro-Vice Chancellor of KNUST, he was the Head for the Department of Supply Chain and Information Systems at KNUST School of Business (KSB).He received his Bachelors’ degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Masters’ degree in Business Administration and PhD in Logistics & Supply Chain Management all from KNUST. Prof. Asamoah’s teaching and research interests are in the areas of Supply Chain management and Information Systems, with particular interest in Enterprise Resource Planning, Supply Chain Digitalization and Digital Transformation, Data-driven Supply Chains, Sustainable Supply Chain Management, Supply Chain disruption and resilience. He has co-authored and published in many reputable journals including IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, the International Journal of Logistics Management Communication of the Association for Information Systems (CAIS), Information Systems Frontiers, International Journal of Information Management, Information Technology for Development. He also has various conference proceedings and book chapters from notable conference such as Decision Sciences Institute Annual Conference, Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS), Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS), and International Federation of Information Processors Conference (IFIP). He is currently a Research Fellow and Senior Technical Advisor at the Centre for Applied Research and Innovation in Supply Chains – Africa (CARISCA), a USAID sponsored project between Arizona State University (ASU) and KNUST.Prof. Asamoah's service activities have been diverse and extensive, resulting in a wealth of experience in delivering high-quality services to both local and international communities. Over the years, he has served as chair and member of numerous statutory and ad-hoc committees within the university community, as well as moderator for several KNUST-affiliated universities.At the national level, Prof. Asamoah's contributions include; Serving as Deputy Chair of the Governing Council for the Institute of Project Management Professionals and as a Faculty Advisory Board member for Sunyani Technical University, serving as a panel assessor for over ten tertiary institutions' accreditation processes on behalf of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), including the University of Ghana Business School, Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration, and Kumasi Technical University, and functioning as an External Assessor for faculty promotions at various Universities in Ghana, including Kumasi Technical University, University of Cape Coast, and Sunyani Technical University.Internationally, Prof. Asamoah has served as an organizing committee member and mini-track co-chair for several international conferences, such as AMCIS and IFIP. He also serves as an ad-hoc reviewer for numerous reputable supply chain and information systems journals. Currently, he is a member of the Editorial Review Boards for the Africa Journal of Management and the Journal of African Business.Prof. Asamoah's extensive experience in university administration includes serving as Vice-Dean of KNUST School of Business for two consecutive academic calendars and as Head of Department (HoD) for three consecutive academic calendars. As HoD, he facilitated the progression of colleague lecturers in both terminal degree attainment and academic rank advancement. He has prioritized student satisfaction by overseeing excellent teaching, organizing relevant seminars, field trips, and workshops to expose students to practical experiences. Prof. Asamoah has supervised several Ph.D. students since 2017.Prof. Asamoah, as KNUST's Host, successfully secured funding from the Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program (CADFP) in both 2017 and 2022. These projects facilitated collaboration with Ghanaian Professors from various Universities in the United States, focusing on assisting KNUST faculty in publishing in high-ranking peer-reviewed journals and supporting the University's MPhil and PhD programs.Prior to academia, he co-founded Asamoah & Williams Consulting, specializing in Management Consulting, with over a decade of experience providing consulting services in financial management and microfinance software implementation. His clients included prestigious institutions like the World Bank, GIZ, and the Ministry of Finance-Ghana, contributing to various development projects in the financial sector.
