Boateng Kyereh
The researcher's work is centered around the intersection of land use, ecosystem services, and agricultural practices in Ghana, particularly focusing on cocoa cultivation and tree farming. Their research delves into how sustainable agroforestry systems can contribute to carbon stock enhancement while mitigating soil nutrient deficits. By examining the ecological dynamics within these systems, they explore the environmental, economic, and social implications of land management strategies. The study also highlights the role of mining activities in shaping local ecosystems, emphasizing their impact on soil health and carbon storage. Through a multidisciplinary approach that includes geology, botany, and economics, the researcher aims to provide insights that bridge agricultural practices with ecological sustainability goals, offering valuable perspectives for improving forest management and sustainable development strategies in Africa.
Faculty Biography
Prof Boateng Kyereh is a professor and natural resources management expert who holds a PhD in forest ecology from the University of Aberdeen, UK. He has been involved in many research and development projects implemented in collaboration with national and international research institutions to promote sustainable natural resource management and its associated livelihoods. Key among them are;Prof Kyereh’s research work spans a period of over 28 years and covers a wide array of thematic areas in resource management. He provides scientific inputs into policy debates on critical issues in natural resource management and tries to bridge the gap between academia and civil society. He also serves society by contributing to capacity building of stakeholders at both formal and non-formal levels for improved decision making in natural resource governance and management in Ghana. He achieves this by effectively playing his role as an associate professor in the Department of Silviculture and Forest Management, KNUST, Kumasi. In addition, he works with farmers and facilitates information dissemination programmes for improved decision-making organised by Tropenbos Ghana and on other platforms.
