Faculty Biography
Dr. Yen Adams Sokama-Neuyam is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Petroleum Engineering and Scientific Director of the Net-Zero Carbon Emission Lab (NCEL) at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). He is a leading researcher in CO2 geosequestration—including Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), Underground Hydrogen Storage (UHS), and Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW)—as well as industrial decarbonization, campus sustainability, and net-zero operations. With extensive research experience, Dr. Sokama-Neuyam is deeply committed to advancing sustainable energy practices and supporting Ghana’s transition to a low-carbon future. His expertise in CCS and decarbonization within the oil and gas sector has established him as a key voice in the development of climate-conscious, industry-relevant engineering solutions. His work is widely published in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals, reflecting his significant contributions to the field. Before returning to KNUST, he served as an Assistant Professor of Natural Gas Engineering at the University of Stavanger, Norway. He holds a PhD and MSc in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Stavanger and a BSc in Petroleum Engineering from KNUST. Beyond his research, Dr. Sokama-Neuyam is a passionate educator and mentor, integrating cutting-edge science with practical applications to cultivate critical thinking and innovation among his students. As a leader, he leads with vision and purpose, implementing transformative initiatives that bridge academia, industry, and policy. His work goes beyond solving technical problems; it’s about shaping a more sustainable and equitable future for African higher education and energy systems.
