Kofi Owura Amoabeng
The researcher's work is centered on advancing energy efficiency and comfort optimization through the development of innovative technologies across diverse domains. This includes enhancing indoor climate systems for improved thermal comfort, optimizing solar thermal and photovoltaic systems for enhanced energy efficiency and environmental impact reduction, investigating geothermal energy systems to maximize resource utilization, exploring heat pump applications in cavity testing facilities, evaluating cavity cooling systems for optimal performance, and addressing social issues through flood risk assessments. The research also emphasizes the role of engineering applied research in benchmarking performance evaluations, particularly in sustainable industrial processes such as oil palm production, solar egg incubators, and transportation infrastructure improvements like belt conveyors.
Faculty Biography
Dr. Kofi Owura Amoabeng is a lecturer at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, KNUST. He received his PhD degree from Hanbat National University, South Korea, and his MSc and BSc degrees from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology, Ghana. He is a certified sustainable energy management professional (SEMP). He has over ten years of post-BSc and four years of post-PhD experience as a mechanical engineer, energy auditor, and energy efficiency expect.He has been involved in several research and development (R&D) projects in energy efficiency management, heat pumps, refrigeration and air-conditioning systems, heat recovery technologies, renewable (solar) energy for crop drying, cooling applications, water pumping, food preservation, thermal energy storage, and power generation. Dr. Kofi Owura Amoabeng also worked in the Advanced Energy and Environmental laboratory in Hanbat National University. He contributed to multidisciplinary research projects on the design and analysis of novel technologies in heating, refrigeration and air conditioning systems. He attended conferences such as International Conference of Saving Energy in Refrigeration and Air-conditioning and the Asian-Pacific Forum on Renewable Energy to present his research works. He has made publications in reputable journals such as Mechanical Science and Technology, Applied Thermal Engineering, Energy and Built Environment, Energies, etc. He was a member of the Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers during his time as a PhD student in South Korea.In the area of research, his interests are energy efficiency demand side management and performance evaluation of buildings related to sustainable energy use, heat pump systems, renewable energy, heat recovery technologies as well as design of thermal energy systems.
