Ellen Konadu Antwi-Adjei

Faculty Biography

Dr. (Mrs.) Ellen Konadu Antwi-Adjei is an optometrist and a lecturer at the Department of Optometry and Visual Science, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Ghana. She has a lot of years of clinical experience. She completed Masters in Public Health, Community Eye Health track in 2017, at University of Cape Town, South Africa, recipient of the Commonwealth Eye Health Consortium Scholarship(The Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust) .Her MPH dissertation was on “Relationship between the prevalence of trachomatous inflammation in children (age 1-9 years) and the prevalence of trichiasis in adults (age 15 years and above) at a presumed steady state”. She has Doctor of Optometry (OD) and BSc degree from KNUST. She was on the Faculty of Biosciences Dean’s Honours List for outstanding academic performance in 2008.She participated in the Commonwealth Eye Health Consortium Five Year Meeting, in London, UK, supported by The Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust. The purpose of the meeting was to celebrate and reflect on the lessons and achievements of the last five years and also provide an opportunity to develop plans for future activities together. She was an interviewee and also gave a presentation on the consortium’s scholarship offered at University of Cape Town, SA.In recognition of the important role she had played with the Commonwealth Eye Health Consortium, established by the Trust in partnership with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, she was invited to attend a Reception to celebrate the work of the Trust hosted by HM The Queen at Buckingham Palace on October 2019.The meeting also provided the opportunity to collectively reflect on the future of global eye health and think through how we can contribute to working towards quality eye care services for all.She has been trained in epidemiology, health systems research, evaluation and policies, infectious diseases and evidence-based practice. She is an active member of the Allied Health Professions Council, Ghana, Ghana Optometric Association (GOA), Ghana Science Association (GSA), Women in STEM (WiSTEM, gh) and The Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO). She moderates and facilitates conferences and is the clinical coordinator for her department.She has published in scientific peer-reviewed journals on articles in health, optometry, ophthalmology and vision science. She has also contributed to conference proceedings in the research field and is a Reviewer for some journals.
