Research Overview & Focus

Higher education research in Ghana has focused on students' access to higher education participation, equity, and disparity across various universities. Studies have examined student opportunities from 2015 onwards, highlighting challenges and equitable experiences. The researcher has contributed significantly to critical thinking development among undergraduate students through papers on essential ingredients for successful research proposals and hedonic price indices in Ghana. However, these studies also highlight the need for addressing housing supply challenges, particularly in urban contexts like Ghana. Their research has explored the constraints faced by housing supply, using methodologies such as fuzzy numbers for real estate valuation. The researcher's work extends to diverse areas, including banking, finance, and policy-making. They have examined financial reporting practices and the use of advanced techniques in Ghana, contributing to a global understanding of these areas.

Faculty Biography

Anthony Owusu-Ansah (PhD) is the Head of Department and a Professor of Real Estate Finance and Economics at the Department of Land Economy, KNUST. Before joining the Department, Anthony was an Associate Professor of Finance at the Business School of Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Accra. He completed his PhD in Real Estate at the University of Aberdeen in the UK. Before his doctorate degree, he graduated from the Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Ghana with MSc degree in Real Estate Management and BSc. Degree (First Class) in Land Economy respectively. He is a professional member of the Ghana Institution of Surveyors and an Associate Fellow of the British Higher Education Academy. At GIMPA, he was the Head of Department of the Finance and Accounting Department between September 2019 and December 2021. He was also the Coordinator of Graduate Programmes at the Business School GIMPA between September 2015 and August 2019. He also served on several Academic Board Committees and on the University Council’s sub-committee of Finance and Development between September 2019 and December 2021. His teaching interests include Real Estate Economics, Real Estate Finance, Quantitative Research Methods, Real Estate Valuation, Principles of Real Estate, Corporate Finance and Financial Management. Anthony is an expert in Hedonic Modelling and House Price Index Construction and has also consulted a number of private people and firms on crop compensation valuation, real estate valuation, Market Analysis and the Highest and Best Use of Real Estate. Anthony’s research focuses on housing market analysis, behavioural finance and housing market, hedonic pricing and index construction, Land Management and Land Information Systems etc and has researched extensively into the housing markets in Ghana and has over a dozen of research publications to his credit in international reputable journals like the Housing Studies, Journal of Housing and Built Environment, Habitat International, International Journal of Housing Market and Analysis, Journal of Corporate Real Estate, etc. He is the author of the book “Construction and Application of Property Price Indices” published by Routledge: London in 2018. He is an external examiner to the University of Mines and Technology, Tarkwa, University of Cape Coast, University of Witwatersrand in South Africa, University of Johannesburg in South Africa, Central University, Koforidua Technical University and Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development in Wa. He is an old student of Kumasi Academy
