Research Overview & Focus

The researcher's work spans multiple critical areas of social sciences research, focusing on urban transport accessibility, disability rights, traffic safety, transportation planning, assistive technologies, and agricultural innovations. Through comprehensive studies on public transport experiences among students with disabilities in Ghana, the researcher explores how accessible urban transport contributes to mobility concerns and pedestrian safety. Additionally, the paper examines predictors of distracting activities, highlighting lessons from public transport operators, while also delving into disability rights perspectives. The integration of accessibility features into transportation planning ensures equitable access for all, emphasizing the role of assistive technologies in communication and mobility, and finally, agricultural innovations are explored to address hunger, showing a holistic approach to improving social inclusion through practical solutions.

Faculty Biography

Dr. Prince Odame is an esteemed faculty member in the Department of Computer Engineering KNUST and a Research Fellow at the Responsible Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (RAIL). He also leads the health division within the Distributed IoT Platforms, Privacy, and Edge Intelligence Research (DIPPER) Lab, where his interdisciplinary work bridges cutting-edge technology with critical societal needs. His pioneering research focuses on revolutionizing neonatal healthcare and agricultural systems through innovative, accessible solutions that prioritize affordability and ethical scalability.A visionary in his field, Dr. Odame designs cost-effective medical devices—often incorporating locally sourced materials—and integrates artificial intelligence (AI) to tackle pressing challenges in both healthcare and agriculture. His groundbreaking projects include AI-driven tools for paediatric height and weight estimation, AI-assisted diagnostics for neonatal jaundice, and advanced computational models for chronic wound management. By employing techniques like finite element analysis (FEA), he optimizes medical device design, ensuring precision and practicality for resource-constrained environments.Beyond engineering, Dr. Odame’s dual role as a reverend minister underscores his commitment to harmonizing technological advancement with compassionate service. His work is driven by a profound dedication to reducing disparities in healthcare and agriculture, particularly for marginalized communities. Through scalable, ethically grounded innovations, he strives to democratize access to life-saving neonatal care and sustainable agricultural practices, fostering global equity in two vital domains of human well-being.Combining technical brilliance with humanitarian purpose, Dr. Odame exemplifies the transformative power of interdisciplinary collaboration, proving that technology, when guided by empathy, can uplift the most vulnerable and reshape systems for a more equitable future.
