Faculty Biography
Dr. Kenneth Adomako Tutu is a civil engineering lecturer at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and has over 13 years of experience in civil engineering consulting, both in Ghana and in USA. His teaching interests include pavement engineering and highway engineering, while his research interests encompass pavement material characterization, pavement structural modeling, accelerated pavement testing and pavement condition evaluation. He is currently working on research projects involving characterization of traffic, materials and climatic factors for advanced pavement engineering design in Ghana. His research efforts also focus on evaluating the potential of industrial waste materials for sustainable pavement engineering applications. He shares his research work through peer-reviewed journal publications; conference proceedings and presentations; and technical reports. Training practicing and future engineers is his passion.Dr. Tutu earned his preliminary degrees in civil engineering from KNUST, and his doctorate also in civil engineering from Auburn University, USA, where he specialized in pavement and materials engineering. At Auburn, Dr. Tutu engaged in pavement research at the National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT), where he actively participated in pavement instrumentation, performance data collection and processing and forensic investigation at NCAT's full-scale accelerated pavement testing facility. As a registered professional civil engineer in Ghana, Dr. Tutu is actively involved with the Ghana Institution of Engineering and is currently serving on the editorial board of the Institution’s journal. He is also affiliated to the American Society of Civil Engineers; several Transportation Research Board Standing Committees; Academy of Pavement Science and Engineering; and Association of Asphalt Paving Technologists. He is a technical reviewer for several renowned journals, including International Journal of Pavement Engineering, Journal of Construction and Building Materials, Transportation Research Record, Scientific African and Infrastructures.Scholarship and fellowship awards for Dr. Tutu include the Association of Asphalt Paving Technologists’ Ward K. Parr Scholarship; Kenyon Fellowship, National Center for Asphalt Technology at Auburn University; Walt Woltosz Fellowship, Auburn University; and Netherlands Fellowship Award, Maastricht School of Management. Dr. Tutu loves visiting archaeological sites and studying Bible prophecies.
