Jude Kwaku Bonsu
The researcher's work focuses on advancing control systems optimization across multiple domains, primarily in Physical Sciences, where they investigate optimal control strategies for processes like ethanol fermentation using advanced modeling techniques. Their research also delves into Biomedical Engineering, particularly drug delivery systems, employing mathematical models to enhance efficiency and efficacy. Key methodologies include the development of simulation tools such as Simulink and MATLAB, focusing on optimizing temperature and pH levels in fermentation and improving drug delivery mechanisms.
Faculty Biography
Dr. Jude Kwaku Bonsu is a Lecturer and researcher at the Department of Chemical Engineering, KNUST. His professional training includes a BSc. Chemical Engineering Degree from KNUST, an MSC(Eng) degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Cape Town, and a PhD degree in Chemical Engineering (focusing on Mathematical Modelling) from the University of the Witwatersrand. His passion for teaching started when he was an undergraduate student at KNUST. This led to him serving as a teaching assistant while completing his undergraduate degree. Since then, he has been a tutor in departments such as the Centre for Higher Education Development, Chemical Engineering, and Mathematics at the University of Cape Town. He has also tutored at the Academic Development Unit and the Department of Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering at Wits University. During his teaching, he tries to bring this rich and diverse experience for the benefit of students. Currently, his teaching aims include the incorporation of state-of-the-art software in teaching, to enable students to attempt complex engineering problems. The software that he currently uses includes ASPEN Plus, Matlab, gPROMS, and GAMS. He is always ready for a friendly banter with both faculty and students on the best teaching methods and philosophies. His aim when teaching is to inspire students to shatter any glass ceiling. As a young researcher, he focuses on the use of process integration and optimization tools to optimize both traditional process engineering processes and green technologies. Having been trained in a predominately computational background, he is currently exploring ways in which experimental studies can augment the efficacy of computational chemical engineering. He also seeks to incorporate machine techniques into the traditional PSE areas. Based on these goals, he currently seeks research collaborations with experimental scientists and engineers, computational chemical engineers, AI engineers, and computational chemists. He is interested in working with highly motivated students wanting to leave a mark in the area of process systems engineering.
