Faculty Biography

Prof. Felix Apiribu is an Associate Professor of Nursing at the Department of Nursing, School of Nursing and Midwifery, College of Health Sciences, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). He is also a Fellow of the Ghana College of Nursing and Midwifery (FGCNM), a college established by the provisions of the Specialist Health Training and Plant Medicine Research  ACT 833 2011 to promote specialist education, continuous professional development and postgraduate nursing, midwifery and related programmes and contribute to the formulation of policies to improve health outcomes.Prof. Felix Apiribu has a PhD in Nursing at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, an MPhil in Nursing from the University of Ghana, Legon, where he worked on 'communication in health care settings'. He also has an International MSc in Health Professions Education from the University of Maastricht in the Netherlands, where he worked on the impact of learning styles on students academic performance. His earlier degrees are BA in Nursing and Psychology with a First class (honours) from the University of Ghana, Legon and a diploma in Nursing (distinction) education and Nursing administration from the same University of Ghana, Legon, Ghana.He is a member of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), a member of the Network-Together for health, a member of Sigma Theta Tau International, and a member of the Nurse Educators Group (NEG). In 2014, he received the Sigma Theta Tau International Foundation for Nursing leadership education grant (Omicron Delta Leadership Education Grant) to help support expenses associated with participating in the 25th International Nursing Research Congress in Hong Kong, 24-28 July 2014.His research interest includes communication in health care settings, learning styles, medical-surgical nursing, intimate partner violence, domestic violence, the nursing process and the role of the nurse/midwife professional in nursing education. He has research publications in reputable international journals in these areas. He has extensive experience in the management of Nursing Training Colleges and is a consultant to the Ghana National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA). He has also served as a part-Time lecturer to the Presbyterian University College at Abetifi, Agogo Campus in Ghana. He has provided consultancy services to several Ministry of Health (M.O.H) institutions and hospitals in credentialing and health auditing. He is an external examiner to the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana. He is currently the coordinator of the Ministry of Health (M.O.H) health training institutions affiliated to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and moderates a number of universities and health training colleges affiliated to KNUST. He is an experienced lecturer with over 30 years of teaching experience. He is married with four children.
