Faculty Biography

Kwame OWUSU KWATENG (PhD) is an Associate Professor in the Department of Supply Chain and Information Systems at the KNUST School of Business (KSB), KNUST, Kumasi. Kwame exhibits expertise and research interests in Information Systems, Supply Chain Management, Sustainability and Entrepreneurship. As an academic and scholar, Owusu Kwateng has over a decade of teaching experience at the University, coupled with a rich research background. He has published over 50 research articles in reputable peer-reviewed international journals. His Google Scholar profile has a total of 42 research publications, an H-index of 20 and an i10 index of 34 with over 1700 citations. On ResearchGate, he has 32 research articles with an H-index of 11. As of 10th September 2025, Owusu Kwateng has a Research Interest Score of 695.7, 21,817 Publication Reads and 51 Recommendations on ResearchGate. In 2018, he received the Emerald Literati Award for Highly Recommended Paper. He serves as an ad hoc reviewer of several peer-reviewed journals.Currently, Owusu Kwateng is the Head of the Supply Chain and Information Systems Department and the Lead for the Academic Excellence Pillar on the Affordable Sustainability for Logistics Network in Ghana (ASONG) project at KNUST School of Business. He is also the external Examiner for the Department of Procurement and Supply Chain Management, School of Business, KNUST; SD Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (UBIDS); and the BSc Logistics and Supply Chain Management Programme, Faculty of Business Administration, Pentecost University, Accra. He is also the Chairman of the Research and Policy Committee and the Chief Examiner for the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT), Ghana. Owusu Kwateng once served as the Head of the Information Systems Section in the Department of Supply Chain and Information Systems and the Research Programmes Coordinator (KNUST School of Business). He was a Research Fellow at the Center for Applied Research and Innovation in Supply Chain-Africa (CARISCA) at KNUST. Owusu Kwateng has considerable boardroom experience which includes the following: Board Member of EVE Medical Foundation and Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Charity Foundation. Owusu Kwateng was a member of the team that secured a grant from the World Bank to set up the Regional Transport Research and Education Centre, Kumasi (TRECK), an African Centre of Excellence at KNUST. He also effectively participated in a project that sought to conduct a Business Survey in selected cities and towns in Ghana with sponsorship from the International Organization for Migration (IOM). He was a Resource Person for the Training of Young Entrepreneurs and Managers of Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs) on Entrepreneurship, Business Concept Development, and Business Plan Proposals, from which he had the opportunity to review over five hundred (500) Business Concepts and Business Plans. The programme was under the auspices of Technoserve Ghana. Again, Owusu Kwateng was a Resource Person and Panel Member for the training and selection of Interim Executives of the ONE DISTRICT ONE FACTORY (1D1F) ENABLE Youth Programme under the auspices of the Youth Enterprise Programme (YEP) and Ministry of Trade and Industry (MOTI). He also served as the liaison officer for Manhyia Palace on the Kumasi Job Fair Committee organized by the Ghanaian-German Center for Jobs, Migration, and Reintegration (GGC) in collaboration with Manhyia Palace. Owusu Kwateng has trained postgraduate and undergraduate students, mostly at the local level. He is a member of the Institute of Directors (IOD), Ghana, the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS), African Academy of Management, and a Chartered Member of the Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT). He is currently mentoring some new faculty members at KNUST.
