Solomon Merepa completed his undergraduate training in Doctor of Optometry at the Department of Optometry and Visual Science (DOVS), Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana, in 2012. He then worked as a Teaching and Research Assistant at the DOVS (KNUST) and also engaged in clinical optometry practice for a year before pursuing Translational Neuroscience (MSc) at Sheffield Institute for Translational Neuroscience (SITraN), University of Sheffield, UK, in 2013 as a Commonwealth Shared Scholar.He returned to KNUST as an Assistant Lecturer in Optometry until 2017 when he enrolled as a DPhil student in Clinical Neurosciences at St Cross College, University of Oxford, UK, under the sponsorship of the Commonwealth Scholarships Commission, UK.Currently based in the Nuffield Laboratory of Ophthalmology (NLO) of the Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences (NDCN), Oxford, his DPhil research focuses on identifying novel genes involved in inherited retinal dystrophies (IRDs) using gene sequencing and molecular biology techniques.His research interests include neurodegeneration, neuroprotection, retinal degeneration and gene therapy for inherited retinal dystrophies.Solomon is a member of the following societies:Ghana Optometric Association (GOA)Ghana Neuroscience Society (GNS)Society of Neuroscientists of Africa (SONA)British Neuroscience Society (BNA)Federation of European  Neuroscience Societies (FENS)
