Dr. Armani is a plant ecologist and a natural resource management expert with over 7 years working experience in the forestry and agricultural sectors in West Africa. He has extensive experience in environmental sustainability and commodity certification schemes, encompassing setting up, auditing, and verifying forestry and agribusinesses to various sustainability and certification standards (e.g., Forest Stewardship Council, Rainforest Alliance, and Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil). His interest and expertise also cover stakeholder engagement, training and capacity building in the forestry and agricultural sectors. Dr. Armani actively engaged in ongoing sustainability discussions and platforms in the cocoa sector in Ghana (e.g., Cocoa Talk, discussions on the EU’s deforestation-free Agro-commodity policy).His research interest spans plant species and vegetation science; plant-herbivore interactions; people, nature, and livelihoods; and sustainable Agro-ecological practices in West Africa. He uses a combination of fieldwork, common garden experiment, on-farm participatory research, and data synthesis to provide insights into contemporary sustainable development issues in West Africa.He is a member of several professional associations including the Association for Tropical Biology for Conservation (ATBC), British Ecological Society (BES) and the Society for Conservation GIS (SCGIS). He is currently a co-editor on a Special Issue on Forests for Sustainable Development and Climate Resilience for the Journal of Sustainable Forestry.
