Kabila Abass is a Professor of Human Geography, focusing on urban and economic geographic research. He has independently carried out research in his field and collaborated with others in multidisciplinary research using varied research methodologies. His scholarly scientific works highlight development problems occasioned by policy failures and institutional ineptitude in the context of Sub-Saharan African cities. The goal is to make these cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable.Specific areas of current research are:Kabila has peer-reviewed papers in his field for a number of top journals some of which include Cities, Habitat International, Development in Practice, PLOS One, Heliyon, Urban Climate, African Geographical Review, Journal of Affective Disorders, Women & Health, Gender, Place and Culture, International Journal of Urban Sustainable Development, Geographical Research, Journal of Aging Research and Gerontology Studies, and BMC Public Health. He has researched, taught, and mentored students at all levels. He has served in various capacities, both local and international. He served as the head of Department of Geography and Rural Development, KNUST, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, and is currently the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences. He has served on a number of committees and Editorial Board member of journals including Social Education Research Journal, Ghana Journal of Geography, and KNUST Journal of Geography and Rural Development. He was a co-winner of the 2020 West Africa Science Communication Award for outstanding contribution towards improving science communication in West Africa (by the digital academic publication platform, the Conversation Africa).
