Francis E. Awortwi is a lecturer in the Department of Theoretical and Applied Biology, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi. He holds a PhD degree in Biological Sciences with expertise in Ecology and Water Science. He is a Commonwealth scholar having won a scholarship through the National Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) of Canada and the Canadian International Bureau of Education and the Department of Foreign (CIBE-DEFAIT) to pursue his PhD at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (Department of Theoretical and Applied Biology) in collaboration with the Biology Department of University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. He had his bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences degree at the KNUST.He has several years of experience in teaching at the tertiary level. His research interest focuses on ecology of aquatic/terrestrial ecosystems and in aquatic science. He is particularly interested in ecology of primary producers and environmental quality assessments using primary producers. He also has interests in ecotoxicological studies as well as trophic cascades and impacts in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems.Before joining KNUST as a lecturer, he worked with the Department of Environmental Science at the University College of Agriculture and Environmental Studies (UCAES) at Bunso (Eastern Region) – a private university college focused on training students with skills to understand how to balance human needs and environmental quality through sustainable adaptive environmental management.Dr. Francis E. Awortwi has served on a number of committees and boards at UCAES and also at KNUST, and is currently the Examinations Officer for the Department of Theoretical and Applied Biology – the largest department in the Faculty of Biosciences, College of Science, KNUST. He has co-authored several scientific articles published in reputable journals.
