Dr. Emmanuel Kobia-Acquah is an optometrist and a lecturer at the Optometry and Visual Science department at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana. He studied MSc Public Health for Eye Care at the prestigious London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine after being awarded the Commonwealth Eye Health Consortium Scholarship.He is also an alumnus of the L.V Prasad Eye Institute in India where he obtained a Fellowship in Clinical Optometry. He is an active member of theGhana Optometric Association (GOA), International Association of Contact Lens Educators (IACLE) and The Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO). He is a board member of Volunteer Optometry Services for Humanity (VOSH - Ghana), adviser for Student Volunteer Optometry Services for Humanity (SVOSH - KNUST Chapter), and liason between Vision Aid Overseas (VAO) and KNUST.He has worked with a number of non-governmental organizations such as Unite for Sight, Rotary Club, and VOSH. He was appointed in 2014 as a consultant by the Brien Holden Vision Institute to assist in the development of the optometry program at Mzuzu University in Malawi. He is the head of the outreach unit at the optometry department of KNUST, the aim of which is to decrease avoidable blindness in the northern parts of Ghana through the provision of community-based eye care programs. His career goal is to become a professor and be able to contribute fully towards the eye health needs of Ghana and Africa through the development of policy frameworks that seeks to integrate eye health at the community, district, regional and national levels.
